Our Community. Our Responsibility.

Do your part to keep our communities safe.

Our campuses are masking up or we’re all packing up.

We’re all in this together. If we all don’t comply on and off campuses, we will all need to Pack Up and return to fully remote instruction. That will impact everyone—our students, faculty, staff and communities.

Before going out, take an additional safety step by using the Penn State Go: COVID-19 symptom checker:

Penn State Student Organization Gathering Guideline Update

August 20, 2020

Dear Recognized Student Organization,

Due to concerns associated with the risk of Covid-19 transmission at in-person gatherings, Penn State is suspending RSO in-person gatherings during a two-week return to campus period through September 6, 2020. During this period, community health will be monitored and further guidance will be issued for gatherings slated to begin September 7, 2020 or later.

For the purposes of this notice, “gathering(s)” refers to any public or private meeting, event, program, or activity that would cause members of your organization to congregate in groups of two or more.

It is our sincere hope that by exhibiting caution now, we can return to the programming environment to which you are accustomed. A return to programming will not signify a return to pre-Covid ways of programming. We’ve prepared a resource page with guidance for conducting meetings and events on-campus after September 6, found here: http://bit.ly/PSUProgrammingResources.  Please note: guidelines are subject to change in an effort to balance programming with public health concerns.

We’ve been fielding questions from many of you throughout the summer and have already been impressed by the concern you’ve shown for your members and constituents, and by your creativity in developing new ways to continue your organization’s mission despite the obstacles presented by the Coronavirus. It is for these reasons that we are confident we can count not only on your support, but on your finding ways to thrive as we navigate this together.

If you have questions or concerns that are not addressed in the resources at the above linked page, please reach out to us at StudentOrg@psu.edu.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Grossman Leopard & Jeffrey Zapletal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of Penn State’s Back to State plans shared at a town hall meeting in preparation for the fall, the University has developed requirements and expectations for students to meet prior to returning to campus and local communities this semester. Along with stocking up on face masks, hand sanitizer, soap and disinfectant wipes, students should prepare for back to school by reviewing the following criteria and completing these steps:

Before returning to Penn State, all undergraduate and graduate students at every campus location must:

  • Read and sign the new required “Penn State Coronavirus Compact” that outlines expectations for the semester.
  • Complete mandatory pre-arrival COVID-19 testing, if notified. Select students living in counties across the United States with high infection rates will be contacted by the University on an individual basis in August to complete mandatory testing.
  • Self-quarantine for at least 7 days immediately prior to arrival.
  • Review Penn State and local requirements for masking and social distancing.
